Hoo Loves Ruffles And An Aurifil Giveaway??

Welcome to my stop on the Think Ruffles Blog Hop! I am so happy you are here today :) If you haven't been to my blog before, welcome. Please sit back and stay awhile.  I've been blogging for about 2 years now, I love sharing my projects, quilting challenges, tutorials, and an occasional recipe with you!

You can follow all of my ramblings through Bloglovin' or Feedly

Today, I made a cute little owl to brighten up your home. This little guy will actually end up in my quilt guild's boutique later this year. I used a tutorial that you can find here. It's super easy and would be a great gift for a little girl or boy, don't you think?

The great thing about this tutorial is that you can use scraps and bits to put this together - I didn't buy a single item for this owl, just found some coordinating buttons and ric-rack ~ I was good to go!

For making ruffles, I use my wonderful Baby Lock Ruffle Foot.  Yes, it looks very intimidating, but it's not!!

It turns fabric into wonderful ruffles in a snap!

Here is a quilt I made last year, and I think the ruffle border just sent the quilt over the top :)

You can find a tutorial for this quilt here.

Since I have two little boys, the ruffle foot doesn't get much of a workout in my home, but when I get to break it out, it just makes me smile!!

And for hanging in there with me today, I've got a great...

GIVEAWAY!!

Recently, I won some delicious Aurifil goodies through a Facebook contest.  I just LOVE Aurifil, I won't sew with anything else at this point. It has minimal lint, my Baby Lock loves it and the stitches just melt into the fabric.  Among some other items, they were kind enough to send me a thread color chart.  I already had one on hand so I am going to pass this fantastic resource on to you guys.
I am using Rafflecopter for the giveaway - the rules are super simple, with multiple ways to win.  I will choose a winner one week from today, March 17th.

For one entry - simply comment on this post and let me know what you are doing for spring break (ours is this week)!

For a second entry (optional) - follow my blog via Bloglovin or Feedly and let me know you are a follower.

  21. Not much this Summer, we moved a couple of years ago and then had a baby 10 days afterwards. Our store room has been a dumping ground ever since. My only plan is to sort, organise, store and donate, until we don't look like hoarders. DH keeps saying stores are supposed to be messy but it's irritating when you can't find anything! A few sunny days so we can clear out properly would be fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh goodness, the owl is super cool! And I love the ruffled lattice quilt. I am curious about how you added the ruffled binding. Did you do it the way we do for blankets?

    I love Auriful too!

  59. Cute owl! (Please don't include me in your giveaway though because I don't need the thread chart.)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Spring Break or Summer Break? Both are very similar for me! As a part-time worker in a quilt store my days alternate between shop talk and mom talk. We have nothing special planned for spring break this year... except perhaps some spring cleaning both in and out of the sewing room!

    ReplyDelete
  61. What a cute owl especially in those colors and fabrics. I have to agree that the foot looks a little daunting but I bet it was fun learning how to use it. I know I have a couple of older machines here and one of them came with some things that have just as many moving parts. No, I don't know what to do with it. I think I am going to try the gathering foot on my serger to make a bed dust ruffle at some point though.

I will opt out of the giveaway opportunity as well but appreciate your offering it. THX for participating today.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Love the owl! Our spring break is still a few weeks out. We are just hanging out at home, and will hopefully have some nice weather to get out and play in.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Spring Break is this week for us. We have a kiddo that will be playing and practicing high school baseball this week so no trips for us. We will try to catch a movie as a family and eat dinners all together at the kitchen table. :-)

  108. What an adorable owl! I bought a cross stitch pattern to make my youngest grandson an owl. I showed the pattern to my daughter to see if she liked it. The little guy's older brother saw it and said he wanted one, too! Well, I was having double vision issues and ended up having surgery on both my eyes at the end of November last year. I'm just now getting to the point that I might consider trying to cross stitch. I am slowing putting the binding on a king DWR quilt for a quilt show in June (no, I didn't make the quilt). So, it would be much, much easier and quicker to make these adorable owls for the boys. I'm going to visit in June and they know that Grandma never goes empty handed. I don't have a ruffler for my machine. My best(est) quilting friend does and she and I get together and cut out and sew from time to time. We have different brands. When I can have her make some ruffles for me, I don't see making the investment at this time - lol. What a great project. Thanks for participating and sharing. You've inspired me. I might make one or more for our boutique, too.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  114. Also, follow you on bloglovin'

  153. I've made that owl off a tute I found a bit ago. I even took it and taught it to a sewing class of 9-11 year old girls. I love that every single one can be different, depending on who makes it and what they are feeling like on that day.

  159. Summer plans are way to far away. Probably another staycation. Love the ruffles on the quilt, they really add a special touch. The owl is wonderful and I'd love to make one for an owl loving friend of mine. Thank you for sharing.
