Life Sometimes Gets in the Way of Quilting

Ugh, where has this last week gone? Oh, yeah, I know

  • We have company in town - my cousin's son (14) is spending 2 weeks with us. He is  such a good kid, but I've been very busy feeding a 14 year-old boy in addition to my voracious 4 and 6 year-old sons.  We are on gallon 4 of milk since he's been here!
  • It was our 7th wedding anniversary on Tuesday - we did absolutely nothing exciting on that day - tried to plan a meal out (with the three kids mind you) and my husband had to cancel due to work. Boo.
  • My 4 year old has his 4th case of strep and through a strange turn of events, we are now having his tonsils out tomorrow!
All of this has left very little time for any "me" time! {warning, little rant coming up} In fact, it's weeks like this that make it all too clear that I don't have the picturesque Pinterest/Instagram/Blog life that sometimes you feel like others have. The kitchen is not clean, the laundry is not done, the bills are stacking up and the kids haven't bathed in about 3 days (does a pool bath count?)!

I will admit that sometimes I get a little annoyed at seeing blogs where people's lives appear so perfect, when most days I feel like I am drinking water from a fire hose.  Am I alone here?  Maybe I am reading the wrong blogs!

Some days/weeks/months we are just lucky to get through it all in one piece! I remember when the boys were little bitties babies,  I was just happy if I managed a shower and didn't forget to put on deodorant before I went to work.

We will be stuck at home for the next week after the surgery, so maybe while the little fella naps, I can get some sewing done. We will see....

Hope to be back next week with a big finish and some progress on other WIPs.

Have a wonderful day ~ I hope you get to sew something amazing today!

Upcoming Follower Giveaways

I have been so humbled and thankful for the support I have received over the last year on the blog.  One of my favorite parts of the blog is getting to do little giveaways.  I wanted to think of a way to thank my blog readers over the course of the next few months - so I wanted to let you know that in addition to other fun things I have planned  I'm going to do a giveaway for every 50 new followers that decide to hang around here at The Tilted Quilt.

I had a few Aurifil sample packs left from the last giveaway that I'd like to share with you. As you will remember, I am an Aurifil devotee - I think they make the best thread and I don't buy anything else at this point. These packs give you a taste of several different weights of thread that you can play with to your heart's content :)

When I reach 350, 400 and 450 followers, I'll do a quick giveaway for the thread - open to current followers only. When I hit 500 followers, we'll do a HUGE giveaway. I need a little time to plan for that one, so stay tuned :)

And, of course, here's how you follow me:

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is some fun giveaway goodness on the horizon.

Have a great night - go sew something fun, I know I will!

Be a Hexie Queen!

If ever there were a blog hop that had my name written all over it, this is it!!

I am really excited to be a part of this blog hop coming up next month - this is a Mdm Samm Sew We Quilt blog hop with Debby as the cheerleader.

Here are a few of my favorite hexie projects - the wheels are already spinning on what I will do for the blog hop.

Third Quarter Finish-A-Long Link Up

It's been a week since my last blog post and the kids and I travelled to my parents' house, my brother's house and back.  Have I unpacked our clothes yet? No! Have I sewed much of anything this week? No!  My husband painted a large portion of the house while we were gone and all of the furniture is still piled out of the way.  Have we put it all back together yet? No!

It seems as if I need a little kick in the pants, don't you think?

I'm going to link up my Third Quarter projects with Leanne at She Can Quilt.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll be accountable and get some stuff crossed off the list!!

1.  Cozy Campground Quilt

2.  Commission Quilt for Jennifer

3.  Swoon - blogged here - 5 6 (as of tonight) of 9 blocks completed!

Gosh, I love these blocks!!

4.  String Quilt - I was given a bag full of strings and I want to make something with them - thinking about doing the Ziggy Strings tutorial from Stitched In Color.

5. Rainbow Charms - I have 120 charms in luscious rainbow colors from a recent charm swap - whatever will I do with them.  They are just staring at me, dying to be stitched together.

Your Rainbow Charms!!

6.  Hexagon pillow (or small baby quilt) - I'm letting this project develop as I go. I don't know where it will end up - it's a mystery, even to me.  Using two Posy mini charm packs.

Whew - I am going to be a busy lady this quarter. What is on your list? I'd love to know!

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

My to-do list is ever growing, but a few recent finishes have made way for a whole set of new work.

Here's what's going on in my sewing room this week:

I'm working on a quilt for Moda Bake Shop that should (fingers crossed) be completed mid-July.  It uses the totally adorable S'more Love line that just came out.  This is going to be a family  quilt to take on our camping adventures.  I can't wait to show it to you - it will be a very simple paper-pieced block, great for beginners.

These three fabrics will make up Block #5 of my Swoon quilt.  I've just joined a Flickr group of other Swooners with the goal of finishing this up by the end of the summer.

These blocks were made for me by my Get Your Hex On! hive mates.  It would be an understatement to say that I am a hex-aholic. I started a bee this year dedicated to all things hexie and it's been such a blast so far. My month to host was February and I hadn't really made progress on laying out these gorgeous blocks yet.  This past weekend, my hubby (aka my design consultant) and I put up the blocks on the design wall and started playing around with layouts for these blocks.  Eventually, the quilt will be called "Falling in Love."  I snapped a quick pic of what I want to do.

Now, I've got to figure out a way to implement the vision.

So, what are you working on this week?
