Follower Giveaway!

I'm a little tardy in following up on this promise, but I did tell you months ago that when I hit 500 followers, I would host a giveaway.  Well, as you know, life sometimes gets in the way of the more fun things and I haven't had a chance to pull this together, until now!

And, wouldn't you know it, I actually have 600 of your fabulous folks checking in with this blog and I'm so pleased that you want to be a part of my quilting adventure.  Thank you!

So, in honor of this fun blogging milestone I am going to give away two gift certificates to two great online stores who were generous enough to want to celebrate with me!

$25 Gift Certificate from Ella's Cottage

Leigh Anne still has Comma and Happy Go Lucky in her Etsy shop, so this would be a great little post-holiday present to give yourself, right? Also, check out her personalized pet pillows, they are so cute!

$45 Gift Certificate from Fat Quarter Shop

The Fat Quarter Shop is an online store that in reality is only about 15 minutes  from my house... why oh why won't they open up their warehouse sometime just so I can get a lookie loo ;)??

They carry tons of fabric, patterns, notions, you name it.  As an aside, they are carrying my new favorite line, Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander.  I figure if I say this fabric line out loud enough times, someone in my life will get the hint and get me some!!

So here's how the giveaway is going to work:

1.  It is open to followers only - I am here, after all, to give a big  Thank You for following the blog  (psst. if you aren't a follower, please follow me via Bloglovin or Feedly so you can join in the fun).  You don't need to tell me you follow the blog, it's an honor system here :)

Follow on Bloglovin follow us in feedly

2. Leave a comment below telling me which fabric line you are currently obsessing over.   See above for my answer ~ HA!

3. I will pick two winners on January 1st via the Random Number Generator.

4. Pretty pretty please, don't be a no-reply blogger. I can't contact you if you are, and I'll have to give your prize away to someone else.  How do you find out if you are one?  Click on this easy tutorial.

Again, a big thanks for being a part of this blog - I'm looking forward to great things in 2014 with all of you!

Fabriholics Anonymous

I have been thinking for a while that I need to go on a fabric diet (in addition to that other diet we are all starting on January 1) - I have built up my stash quite a bit in the last couple of years, and it's time to sew into those fabrics! So, I've been looking for a group of like-minded quilters out there to share this adventure with.  I ran across this challenge over at Making Rebecca Lynne ~ she is partnering with Jess from The Elven Garden to not purchase any fabric for the first 6 months of the year!! Just writing it makes me nervous, but I am going to try it!

FabAnon

However, there are some exceptions, which I will note here:

  • I can purchase batting or quilt backing fabric (because I don't have large cuts of fabric on hand)
  • I can purchase time on the long arm for quilting
  • I can purchase thread or notions, as needed.
  • Commissioned Quilts - fabric for those quilts can be purchased with the expectation that they will pay for themselves.
  • I may need some white solid Kona to use as background - I can buy that, but only with a Joann's coupon ;)
  • If for some reason a fabric fairy sends me a gift certificate, I am GOING to buy a bundle of Carolyn Friedlander's Botanics line - I'm slightly obsessed with it!
Also as part of the challenge, I need to lay out my UFO/WIP list for the next 6 months, to keep myself on track.  Here it goes!

Red and White Double Wedding Ring
status = piecing in progress - due September 12 for Quilt Show

Swoon
status = blocks completed, need to add sashing, quilt

TShirt quilt
status = rows completed, need to put it together, quilt
update* top completed* 12/29

Summer Sampler Series
status = top complete, needs quilting

status = starting in January.  Here's my fabric pull for that quilt (from my stash, of course)

Rainbow Russian Rubix
status = not started yet, but I've got the rainbow charms to piece the blocks.

Economy Block Along
I may have found the way to bust up my stash even more with the #economyblockalong on Instagram.  Check out the free pattern and tutorial by Red Pepper Quilts... This could be a great year long effort to dash the stash!

I'm sure I will add more projects as the year goes along, but this is definitely a good start and plenty to keep me busy for the next 6 months!

Anyone out there thinking about going on a fabric diet?

Broken Herringbone - Finished!

Rainbow Broken Herringbone

It's been a long time coming, but my Rainbow Broken Herringbone is DONE! Whew!

Stats:
Finished Size = 60" x 60"

Broken herringbone detail

I have blogged about the process here, here, and here. Big shout out to the pattern designer, Amy at Play-Crafts and the always-entertaining Molli Sparkles for the fun Quilt-A-Long as well. I really had a blast participating in this one.

I'm enjoying taking quilts out to various Austin, TX locations to shoot them - this is the "Greetings From Austin" mural on South First street.  If you're ever in Austin, it's a great place to take a snapshot.

My Rainbow Broken Herringbone went out for a little photo shot today. Keep Austin Quilting! #msbhqal

It's so hard to give these away, but it is going to a VERY special teacher and, as I have always said, the real joy of quilting for me is to give these to people who will love them for years to come!

I'm so happy to finally have a Friday Finish to show you so I'm linking up today with Finish It Up Friday, Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? and TGIFF!

Two New QALs - Join Me!

One of these days very soon, I'm going to plan and host my own Quilt Along... But in the mean time, here are the two that have caught my eye and that I am going to commit to for 2014!

The Feathers QAL starts this week with a general tutorial, but the blocks won't start in earnest until January 3rd. The QAL will use The Feathers Pattern by Alison Glass and Nydia Kehnle. It's paper pieced, so you know I love it!  There is a Flickr Group and folks are Instagraming using #feathersqal.

I'm thinking a black and white quilt with a pop of color (either teal or purple). Should be so fun ~ here's the fabric I pulled...

The second QAL is a year long block-of-the month style challenge with Erin from Sew at Home Mummy.  Check out the link for all of the details - but Erin will take a classic block and challenge us to update it with a modern spin.  The result will be a sampler with a "classic meets modern" feel to it ~ which I think fits perfectly in my style.

Sew at Home Mummy

One of my goals for 2014 is to sew from my stash! I spent a lot of 2013 building up the stash (and I have the credit card bills to prove it), now it's time to cut into those coveted fabrics and make some beautiful quilts.  I'm thinking about hosting a bloggy event to "Slash Your Stash" - possibly in February. More to come on that soon...

So, I hope you will join me on these two QALs - the more the merrier!

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway!

I haven't participated in a Sew Mama Sew Giveaway before, but I am really excited to do so today! Welcome to The Tilted Quilt! Here, I share my quilting adventures, plus a little peek into my busy life as a mom, wife and full time lawyer.

Along the top bar, you can see my completed quilts this year, a few tutorials and other projects I'm working on.  Quilting is a hobby, not a full time job - but it's my passion and I do it as often as I can.

It seems like over the last few months, I've been spending lots of time Instagramming my projects rather than blogging, but I'm going to make a New Year's Resolution to recommit to more regular blogging.  However, here is a recent finish I can share. This is my Holiday Sparkler Table Runner! Isn't she lovely - she now has an eternal spot in my Christmas decorating...

IMG_0043

A few months ago, I made this camping quilt for the  Moda Bakeshop quilt and I was so excited to share my project with you all.

I hope you see a few things on the blog that catch your eye - I would love for you to come back soon and visit!
For the giveaway, I'm offering up an Aurifil sample pack so you can try out some of my favorite threads.  I am an Aurifil girl, pure and simple - if you haven't tried them, you'll love this pack to try several different weights out!

I will ship internationally, so enter using the Rafflecopter widget for your chance to win.  There are three ways to enter - (1) Leave me a comment telling me your favorite part of the Holidays - mine is decorating the tree with my boys, hot chocolate by the fire, watching holiday movies - heck, what don't I love???  (2) follow me on Instagram and (3) follow the blog. 2 and 3 are totally optional, but I would love to have you come back soon for lots more fun!

Psst...if you are a "no-reply" blogger, it is so sad, but I won't be able to reply to your comments :(  Let's fix this problem - it will make everyone happier... here's how!

How to stop being a no-reply blogger

December 3, 2013

Wow, I feel so accomplished - it only took me 3 days to do 1/4 of the frame and 1 day (of 12?!?) on my 12 days of Christmas sampler! Do you detect a hint of sarcasm in my typing?

Still, isn't this ador.a.ble!!  I am hooked :) I'll be Instagramming progress here(#thefrostedpumpkinstitchery) if you'd like to follow along.

It's a great day to cross stitch because I am home fighting a cold - my immune system could only take my kids coughing, sneezing and wiping their noses on me for so long before it threw in the towel.  So, I will be on my couch drinking tea and stitching for the rest of the day :)

November 26, 2013

Cross-Stitch,huh?

I may be a total sucker, but I am going to take on a cross stitch project over the Christmas holidays!! It's only been, say, 15 years since I did a cross stitch project. But, I have been SUCKED in to the adorable designs at Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.  Seriously, folks, this website should come with a warning!!

So, the pattern comes in three weekly installments (the first one comes on the 29th, but I haven't even started the frame, so I am already playing catch up), each week is a surprise pattern, but as you can see below the teaser from the website is adorable!  I've bought my floss and ordered my fabric online.  I'm anxiously awaiting its delivery so I can stitch the frame.  This just seemed like a perfect holiday project that I can do while snuggled up on the couch with some hot chocolate... mmm, a girl can dream, right?

You can follow all the action of these adorable patterns via Instagram (#thefrostedpumpkinstitchery).  Anyone else stitching up something fun this holiday??

It has been forever but I am linking back to WIP Wednesday today - hope to have some more progress for you soon!

International Quilt Festival ~ here I come!

Hang on to your wallets, I'll be in Houston for the International Quilt Festival on Saturday and Sunday!

When I'm not shopping, I'll be Instagramming some of my favorite quilts with the hashtag #quiltfestival.  If you want to find me on Instagram, I'm here.

If you haven't seen the best in show yet, you must check this out!! This is "Chihuly's Gondola" by Melissa Sobotka - a Texas gal who has only been quilting for 6 years. This gives someone like me hope!  I cannot wait to see this in person - the pictures are beyond amazing!  Here's a link to the major winners.  Enjoy!

Broken Herringbone Top.... REVEALED!

Molli Sparkles

After several months of loving participating in the Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone Quilt-A-Long (#msbhqal for your Instagrammers), the time has come to link up and share our finished quilts (or quilt tops, as the case may be).

Here's a little walk down memory lane!

So, I decided to do a rainbow layout, and here was my first mockup...

broken herringbone mockup

Then came time to do the blocks.  A quilt like this allows you to fall in love with your fabric all over again. I carefully picked out 2 1/2 inch strips to put into this quilt.  My quilty friends laugh at me - I am a total sucker for ROYGBIV (rainbow) quilts.  I just love bright, saturated colors.   So, selecting the fabrics for this was SO MUCH FUN!.

My first broken herringbone block - love it!

Aqua block x 2!

Navy blocks x3 are done - only 5 blocks left!! My design wall isn't big enough!

Purples...done!

I did some strip swapping for those colors that I was lacking in - mostly yellows and navy blues (thanks Ms. Molli and Leigh Anne!)

And, this was the end result!

I'm calling it...

Rainbow Herring {Bad To The} Bone

#msbhqal rows are pieced!!!

Broken Herringbone Top - Finished!!

You have to go check out all the Broken Herringbone Quilts that have been finished - you will just HAVE to make one for yourself, I promise you won't be sorry!!
