This quilt was featured on the cover of McCall's last year and I just loved it.
A couple years ago, I did a Christmas quilt and it was before I really started to understand that just because you like all of the fabrics in a particular line, you shouldn't use them ALL in one quilt at one time. It was a little loud and overwhelming. ANYWAY, so I love this quilt because I really love the Flurry line by Kate Spain for Moda, the quilt uses a jelly roll so I know the cutting will be precise, AND I got the fabric all 50% off last year after Christmas.
I changed up the color scheme a little since some of the fabrics weren't available - I focused the star more with the winter blues and my border will also be blue. It reminds me of frosty winter snowflakes, which we never get here in Texas. So, last night, I dusted off my machine and got to work. I was really pleased with how quickly the top came together. After just a few hours of work, I got most of it done, thanks to those precut jelly rolls. Also, it only takes about 1/2 of the jelly roll so I'm thinking I can make a holiday table runner or some placemats with the rest. Here's a sneak peek on the design wall last night:
I do find it funny that I am working on this quilt in the midst of the 100 degree temps here - but in some ways I feel ahead of the Christmas rush now.
Oh, I also decided that I would finally use this embroidery pattern I got for FREE last year from www.urbanthreads.com - sign up for their weekly e-mails if you haven't already done so - they do free designs quite a bit and I snagged this one. You can see it in the top right corner above - so cute!
I'm hoping to wrap the top up tonight - I've got several baby quilts in the queue - maybe I need a new project list post so I can re-organize my next few months and figure out what's up next. I can't decide if this one is going to go on Etsy to fuel my fabric addictions or whether I'll give it away as a Christmas gift - we'll have to see how attached I become by the time I am done with it!
This week, I am linking up my post to Work-in-Progress Wednesday at Freshly Pieced - can't wait to see all the great WIP's out there.
LET IT SNOW!
