First Things First

Here are the basics - last year I upgraded my 10-yr old Kenmore (which was still in great condition, by the way) to a Baby Lock: Ellure Plus which is WONDERFUL. Not only is it a fully function sewing machine, it also has an embroidery unit which works with a 5x7 hoop. I didn't really think that I would want to embroider, but I had to admit, after playing around with this machine over the last few months, I am hooked.  I bought the QuiltLabel Maker software and have done some really cute projects already {see below}.

For quilting, I stick to 100% cotton fabrics - as far as I can tell they hold up really well and don't fade too much with gentle use.  I also tend to favor 100% cotton thread, such as Aurifil.  I am still playing around with various brands of batting, but so far I'm also favoring Warm and Natural cotton batting as well.

So, back to the embroidery unit of the Ellure Plus. I used the heck out of that machine over the holidays.
So far, my favorite embroidery website to purchase designs from is Urban Threads.  Check out their designs - so cute and fun! My go-to Christmas gift was a simple linen dinner napkin folded in thirds to make a tea towel with this fantastic doodle Christmas tree.  The design was $5 and I had the napkins already, so I was able to make about 8 of these as gifts at almost no cost!
